What are Funnels?

A conversion total tells you the outcome. Funnels show how sessions progress through the important steps before it, where they drop off and how many reach the final action.

Measure the path in order.

Build up to four ordered steps from page visits and custom events. Add supported conditions, then review how many sessions reach each step and complete the sequence within a session.

Use the results to choose a step for a closer look. Open recorded journeys for visitors who completed the funnel to inspect the activity around a completion.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers on funnel setup and measurement. For more detail, see our docs.
What is a funnel?

A funnel is an ordered sequence of steps. It measures how many sessions reach each step and how many complete the final one.

How many steps can I add?

Up to four steps per funnel.

Can I combine page visits and custom events?

Yes. You can build the sequence from page visits, custom events or both. Event steps require those events to be recorded by your website.

Does the order matter?

Yes. Funnel steps are measured in order within a session. Reaching the same pages in a different order does not necessarily complete that funnel.

How can I match different page URLs?

Use an exact path, a path prefix or a regular expression, depending on the pattern you need.

Can I use conditions such as a campaign or event property?

Yes. The builder supports conditions including UTM source and medium, country, browser and custom event data.

Can I inspect visitors who completed the funnel?

Yes. Load the completion visitors from the funnel detail page, then open a visitor's recorded journey.

Does a funnel explain why someone left?

It shows where sessions stop progressing through your defined sequence. Use that evidence alongside visitor journeys, user research or testing to investigate the reason.
