Custom Events

Track the actions a pageview cannot explain

Track successful form submissions, signup actions, button clicks and other important interactions with Custom Events. Add the details you need, then use those events to measure activity, define goals and build funnels.

Create an event, copy the snippet and send it when the action happens.

What are Custom Events?

A pageview cannot tell you everything a visitor did. Custom Events let you track successful form submissions, signup actions, button clicks and other interactions, even when the URL stays the same.

Keep context with each action.

Define useful event details, such as a form name or selected plan, then use tracked events in Goals and Funnels. Generated HTML and React examples help you connect the tracking call to the right action.

Creating an event definition does not start tracking by itself. Your website needs to send the event when the action happens. Event counts measure occurrences, while the Goals dashboard counts distinct converting sessions.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers on custom event tracking and setup. For more detail, see our docs.
What can I track?

Website interactions that you can connect to the event tracking call, such as successful signups, form submissions, button clicks or product actions.

Do I need to add code?

Yes. You need to connect the tracking call to the relevant action on your website. Cromojo generates HTML and React examples to help with setup.

Does creating an event in Cromojo start tracking it automatically?

Creating the definition gives you the event name, fields and example snippet. Your website still needs to send the event when the action happens.

Can I add details to an event?

Yes. Define metadata fields such as a form name or selected plan, then pass their values with the event.

Which metadata types are supported?

Text, integers, decimal numbers and true/false values.

Can an event count as a conversion?

Yes. Add an event-based goal using that event name and use Goals mode to report on converting sessions.

Can I use event data in a funnel?

Yes. The funnel builder supports custom event names and custom event data conditions.

Is an event count the same as a goal conversion count?

Event counts measure recorded occurrences. The Goals dashboard counts distinct sessions matching at least one active goal, so repeated events in one session do not create repeated dashboard conversions.
