What are Goals?

Traffic tells you how many people visited. Goals show whether those visits led to actions that matter to your business, such as a signup, a demo request or a completed enquiry.

Define success around your website.

Use page visits or custom events as the trigger. The dashboard counts each session matching at least one active goal once, then lets you explore conversions by page, source, campaign, location and device.

Goals work for lead generation and other outcomes without Stripe or Shopify. Use Funnels and User Journeys when you want to investigate the path around a conversion.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers on goal tracking and setup. For more detail, see our docs.
What can I track as a goal?

You can use a matching page visit or a tracked custom event. Common examples include reaching a thank-you page or firing an event after a successful signup.

Do I need to add code for every goal?

A page visit goal uses visits already recorded by the Cromojo snippet. A custom event goal needs that event to be sent from your website when the action happens.

What URL matching options are available?

Exact match, starts with and contains. Use the option that best fits the page paths you want to track.

How does the dashboard count conversions?

Each distinct session matching at least one active goal counts as one conversion. Completing several goals in the same session does not add several conversions to the dashboard total.

Can I see which sources and campaigns convert?

Yes. Goals mode adds conversion counts to dashboard breakdowns, including pages, traffic sources and campaigns.

Do I need Stripe or Shopify?

No. Goals measure page visits and events, so they can be used for lead generation and other outcomes without a payment connection.

What is the difference between Goals and Funnels?

A goal defines an outcome. A funnel measures an ordered sequence of steps, showing how sessions progress towards the final step.

Can I set a goal using an event property, such as a plan name?

Goals currently match the custom event name. For property-specific outcomes, send a distinct event name or use supported custom event data conditions in a funnel.
